CT Insider/Journal Inquirer Commentary:

For the sake of democracy, we endorse Harris

It may be the most powerful job in the world, but it’s the American voters who do the hiring.

Some of the newspapers in the Hearst Connecticut Media Group have been endorsing U.S. presidents since before the Civil War. The 2024 election cycle is no time to stop that tradition, as the divide between many Americans lurks in a gray twilight of national anxiety.

This is not the year to stay silent. Vote how you want. That’s the American way. We endorse voting for Kamala Harris.

Any possibility of endorsing Donald J.Trump was abolished on Jan. 6, 2021. There are countless persuasive arguments against supporting Trump’s drive to reclaim the White House, but his involvement — and response to — the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is the only reason needed to keep him from holding office again.

Candidates’ Campaign Signs Vandalized

CT House District 53 candidate Ann Bonney and Vernon Town Councilperson Jesse Schoolnik talk about the vandalism of Democratic signs in Vernon, Tolland and Willington with field reporter Hector Molina of WFSB Ch3.

The Vernon Democratic Town Committee strongly condemns the recent vandalism and theft of political signs in our community. Such acts of disrespect undermine the democratic process and stifle the voices of those seeking to engage in meaningful dialogue.

We encourage all residents to uphold the values of civility and respect, and to participate in political discourse without fear of intimidation or destruction.

Together, let’s foster a community that embraces diverse perspectives and values constructive engagement.

And let’s remember the candidates who have volunteered to run for office, and serve their communities, live in our town, they are our neighbors and they deserve our respect.

CT Delegation to the Democratic National Convention Gives Overwhelming Support to Vice President Kamala Harris

HARTFORD 07/22/24 — Connecticut’s delegation to the Democratic National Convention voted to support Vice President Kamala Harris, following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not seek the nomination.

Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at the Harris for President Campaign Rally on Tuesday July 23, 2024 at West Allis Central High School in West Allis, Wisconsin.

In a virtual meeting on Monday evening, the delegation, which includes 74 delegates and 5 alternates, voted overwhelmingly by voice vote in favor of a motion to endorse Vice President Harris to be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. There were no votes in opposition.

“We thank President Biden for his leadership and his patriotism. He showed grace and courage in making the decision not to seek a second term. Connecticut’s voters overwhelmingly endorsed Joe Biden in April, and now our delegation is following his lead and supporting Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next President of the United States,” said CT Democrats Chair Nancy DiNardo.
