Thao Nguyen is running for a first term on the Vernon Town Council.

Thao Nguyen is a Senior Technical Fellow in Systems Engineering at Pratt & Whitney, part of RTX Corporation. He is widely recognized at RTX and across the aerospace industry as an expert in propulsion systems effectiveness.
He is a Subject Matter Expert for the Defense Systems and Homeland Defense and Security Information Analysis Centers.
Thao has worked at P&W for more than 26 years. He has spent much of his career helping to develop the engineering field at P&W and across the industry. Before his current position, he served as Engineering Chief for over 19 years and worked as a design engineer in the Military Engines Division.
Thao was awarded the 2024 Society of Asian Scientists & Engineers (SASE) Achievement award for his contribution to his company. He participates in various industry associations, joint industry-government working groups, and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Defense Industrial Association, Air Combat Survivability Division. He is the current Vice-Chair of the division. Thao is also the current American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Region 1 Connecticut Section Chair.
Thao has resided at his current residence in Vernon for over 30 years. He is married with two children, both of whom graduated from the University of Connecticut. He is active in community service through volunteerism, such as raising money for the United Way of Central & Northeastern CT, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Women’s Shelters, and advising High School and University students on career and professional development.
Thao participates in the RTX University Engagement Initiative to engage and collaborate with academia to educate and train the next generation of aerospace and propulsion systems engineers. In this capacity, he has contributed to the advancement of the disciplines through teaching, training, and mentoring early- and mid-career engineers.
